Burke, Virginia is one of those hidden treasures. Not only is it conveniently located to the metro D.C. region and the Pentagon, it’s a wonderful place for military families to reside. You have easy access to the major thoroughfares, all while enjoying peaceful life situated around a beautiful lake. It’s easy to see why Burke was named number 31 in CNN’s top 100 places to live in 2008. On top of all of that, Burke is actually one of the more reasonably-priced areas to live in the metro area.
Burke Centre is perhaps the largest development in Burke. This planned community is divided up into five areas, each of which has its own character and charm. Burke Centre enjoys a strong sense of community spirit, bringing a true hometown feel to this metro area community. There are a number of other communities and developments within Burk, including places like Cherry Run, Burke Lake Meadows, Edgewater, and Signal Hill.
The centerpiece of Burke’s annual celebrations has to be the Burke Centre Festival. Each September, Burke Centre hosts two days of live entertainment, an arts and crafts show, an evening wine garden, rides for the kids, puppet shows, food vendors, and more. On Saturday mornings during the warmer months from May through October, you can visit the Burke Farmers’ Market, located in the VRE parking garage. Each October, Burke Nursery & Garden Center puts on a Pumpkin Playground, which is a delightful activity for families as well as individuals. You can even play the 18-hold par three golf course at Burke Lake Park, or just hit some balls on the driving range.
You will find one of the region’s favorite shopping destinations in Burke, too. The Burke Centre Shopping Center is made up of more than 40 stores, restaurants, and services.
